Cable and Wireless to buy Energis
Tuesday 16 August 2005 09:41:00 by Andrew Ferguson

BBC News has details on the takeover of Energis by Cable and Wireless (C&W). The takeover involves an initial £594 million in cash, but it seems the cost will be a potential 700 jobs lost within the next three years.

Apparently this deal will make C&W the biggest UK telecoms network provider after British Telecom. In terms of the implications for broadband it is not clear what will happen, C&W currently retail ADSL services via Bulldog.
