The quarters of a year go by so far, it seems like only yesterday that the last set of results were published. The BT Group has published its first quarter results for 2005, which are on the BT website here.
It is little surprise to see that broadband is driving the new sources of income at a time when the traditional markets like voice calls are getting smaller. BT Wholesale as of 30th June 2005, had 5.6 million broadband connections. Profits for the BT Group have risen to £511m, based on a revenue of £4.7bn. £1.3bn of this is due to new wave (broadband and mobile etc) business, this is a 48% jump.
BT Retail which retails the BT Broadband and BT Yahoo! ADSL services had 1,940,000 broadband connections, a 11% increase during the quarter. There was 188,000 new broadband connections in that quarter, roughly 28% of the total BT Wholesale made.
