Be who are planning a 24MBps ADSL2+ service has announced that it will be offering the Thomson SpeedTouch 716g ADSL2+ device as its 'Be Box'. The router which retails for around £100 will be provided free to subscribers on the service that is yet to launch.
The 716g as well as supporting the ADSL2+ standard, also offers 802.11g wireless access and two Voice over IP telephone ports. An interesting aside is that as broadband download speeds increase, the abilities of the wireless access offered by routers becomes more important, which may be the driver for the various turbo 802.11g modes we are seeing appear.
For those eager to have some more snippets about the emerging service visit The Register which has a spokesperson saying the service will cost under £30 a month. Availability is going to be limited initially with roll-out to just 45 exchanges in London.
