10Mbps symmetric broadband for £495 a month?
Wednesday 20 April 2005 13:53:00 by Andrew Ferguson

£495 per month for a 10Mbps service may not sound a bargain compared to headlines in other countries, but for the UK it is pretty cheap. RedKite wireless has expanded its product range to offer speeds of 1Mbps, 2Mbps, 5Mbps and 10Mbps, costing £95, £155, £275 and £475 per month. The service is currently only available in the Oxford area (see map here), but Red Kite are making a note of interest from other areas with a view to expanding.

In the UK you would normally pay around £200-300 a month for a 2Mbps SDSL service, rising to £1000 or more for a 2Mbps leased line. Even in the US, symmetric services are priced at a premium, around $299.95 (~£163) per month for a 1.5Mbps symmetric service (source: Verizon).
