Industry in a stir over cheap broadband
Wednesday 13 April 2005 17:07:00 by John Hunt

Yesterdays announcement of broadband for £9.99 from UKonline has turned a few heads, but disappointed many interested parties according to The Register. The 232 Easynet LLU exchanges that the service uses, only cover 4.4million people in the UK and will induce price inequalities depending on where you live. The main proportion of these exchanges are based around major cities such as London, Birmingham and Manchester which may leave many people who live away from these bustling centres at a price disadvantage. BT are following a similar pattern and reducing the cost of wholesale circuits where high demand has introduced cost savings and economies of scale, as we reported back in February.
