Over on The Register, Tim Richardson has highlighted some oddities with NTL's claim to be the largest retail broadband ISP in the UK. At the end of 2004, NTL says it had 1,355,000 broadband customers (including 61,000 Virgin.net customers), and BT Retail had 1.1 million customers. Meanwhile the BT Group results for the nine months ending 31st December 2004, list BT Retail as having 1,491,000 ADSL customers.
So who is right? More importantly does it matter? The UK is seeing high demand for broadband with most service providers, and a growing market is good for all parties generally.
For the statistic freaks out there, the other large broadband providers are AOL UK 725,000 users, Telewest 698,000 users, Wanadoo 569,000 users and Tiscali 380,000 users.
