Madasafish which is part of the Brightview group, has issued a press release announcing its intention to take part in the BT Wholesale 8Mbps ADSL trials that start in April 2005. The ISP has been invited onto the trials by BT Wholesale.
We can expect more service providers to announce their intentions of signing up for this trial, which is odd as it is initially only for 2,000 lines. The reason we expect is that marketing people are seeing the massive interest in the trials and want to ensure their ISP is seen as part of it. The initial part of the trial may well last 10 to 12 weeks, but as it is a trial this may change. A very important part of the trial is for BT to see how consumers cope with a rate adaptive service in the UK, after years of been used to the same sync speeds whenever they switch their kit on.
One more small snippet of information is that we understand the rate adaption for the downstream speeds will be in 0.5Mbps steps, i.e. 2.5, 3, 3.5 etc up to 8Mbps will be used, depending on the abilities of the telephone line.
