Last night during a gala dinner ceremony, the winners of the Internet Services Providers' Association 2005 Annual Awards (the ISPAs) collected their trophies.
The judges also felt that the following should receive a Commendation for Innovation:
UK Online - for their commitment to LLU to keep pushing up speeds available to consumers
Lumison - for their uncontended service which provides an alternative to leased lines
HomeChoice - for their unique broadband service delivering television within one ISP package.
FireFly - for offering a service with strong delivery and reliability in the tests carried out for the awards.
In addition to the above, Wanadoo picked up Best Portal, ukfast.net was given the Best Hosting Provider award, BT was named winner of The Internet Watch Foundation Award for Developments in Online Safety. The European Union was bestowed with the prize of Internet Villain whilst Stephen Timms MP, the former E-commerce Minister was named Internet Hero.
The focus is shifting from dial-up services to broadband and ISPA's decision to include a number of broadband categories is most welcome to help users differentiate between their varying requirements. [seb]
