Wednesday 26 January 2005 10:27:00 by Andrew Ferguson

Connecting Somerset is a new two year project, which is funded by European Objective 3, the South West of England Regional Development Agency, Somerset County Council, Somerset's five district councils, the European Social Fund and Business Link. The aims of the project are:

  1. Increase the take up of broadband amongst businesses
  2. Help businesses make more use of broadband and information technology
  3. Help local communities make better use of broadband and IT
  4. Increase take up of e-government services by businesses and the community
  5. Develop the skills of learners and the workforce to better meet the IT needs of employers

One of the big advantages for small and medium businesses in the area is that specialist advisers will be on hand to visit companies and help with decisions on sourcing and making the best use of a broadband connection.

More information and quotes from people involved in the scheme can be found at the Public Technology website
