BT Wholesale passes four million broadband connections.
Wednesday 22 December 2004 08:56:00 by Sebastien Lahtinen

BT Wholesale has announced this week it has exceeded four million broadband connections with a customer being connected on average every 10 seconds. A quarter of these connections have taken place in the last four months with 8,500 new connections being installed each day of the week.

"We are currently making a new broadband connection at least every ten seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We reached three million ADSL connections in August of this year, so to have now reached four million well before Christmas is tremendous news. It shows that the take up rate for broadband is accelerating apace."

Ben Verwaayen (Chief Executive), BT

Over 95% of homes and businesses in the UK are now able to receive broadband and by next summer it is expected to be 99.4% pushing the UK ahead of other G7 countries in terms of DSL availability. In addition to the above, BT estimate that there are 1.7 million cable broadband customers in the UK. [seb]
