UK Online service now available at 33 exchanges
Monday 13 December 2004 13:47:00 by Andrew Ferguson

UK Online who recently announced their £39.99 per month 8Mbps ADSL service, is rolling out its service in phases across the EasyNet LLU exchange network. They have announced that 33 exchanges now have the service, with Bristol South and Bristol Bedminster likely to be ready in the next few days. Work on making the 8Mbps available around the UK will resume in the New Year. The 33 live exchanges are listed below:

Bridgeton Bristol West Chelmsford Chesterfield
Crawley Dimsdale East Kilbride Edgbaston
Fountainbridge Hackney Hemel Hempstead Hounslow
Isleworth Kingsland Green Kingswood Leith
Longton Luton Newbury Milton Keynes
Morley Moorgate Orpington Pudsey
Ponders End Romford St Albans Sale
Uxbridge Wakefield Walton on Thames Warrington

One issue that has been raised by customers on our forums, is that the £69.99 (inc VAT) wireless router is a compulsory purchase when subscribing to the service. This is to ensure that UK Online can provide support to customers, without having to confront the myriad of router hardware on the market. On a service that is pushing G.DMT ADSL to its limit of 8Mbps this is partly understandable. People are still able to use a router of their own sourcing, but if reporting a fault you need to double check with the UK Online supplied hardware.
