Monday 22 November 2004 17:54:00 by Sebastien Lahtinen

Some significant changes have taken place within the top ten in the last month with Nildram regaining the top position a year after they were were pushed down from this place and 18 months after they were dominating the top position. Virgin remains in second position whilst Zen dropped from the top to fifth position at 448 Kbps.

1 450.0 Kbps 233.5 Kbps 1338
2 449.2 Kbps 236.7 Kbps 1344
3 PIPEX Internet Limited 448.1 Kbps 232.5 Kbps 3378
4 Wanadoo UK 448.1 Kbps 233.9 Kbps 2678
5 Zen Internet 448.0 Kbps 232.9 Kbps 875
6 PlusNet plc 447.2 Kbps 234.1 Kbps 1396
7 Freedom 2 Surf PLC 444.7 Kbps 233.0 Kbps 946
8 Eclipse Internet 444.6 Kbps 231.4 Kbps 984
9 BT Broadband & BT Yahoo! 443.4 Kbps 232.7 Kbps 5119
10 supanet 443.3 Kbps 236.3 Kbps 788

With the spread of the top ten is getting smaller so the marginal benefit of the top position is becoming less significant. The difference between the top and tenth position is only 6.7 Kbps, down from 15.4Kbps last month. We have again seen Supanet return to the top ten in tenth position pushing Demon out with a speed of 439.6 Kbps. Wanadoo made a miraculous recovery from eleventh position last month at 426.6Kbps to fourth at 448.1 Kbps.

We would encourage users to use a variety of information sources in making their decision on which ISP to use and not to rely solely on speed test results Previous months' results can be found here.

Apologies for the delay in publishing the October results--We have been very busy in the last few weeks on various issues but hopefully will be able to keep up better in the future. [seb].
