BT Wholesale indicated back in May 2004 that more price cuts were on the way. BT today in a press release has confirmed that the connection fee for a shared LLU line will fall to just £37 from its current price of £83.33.
Apparently the cost reduction comes about partly from reduction in costs due to BT automating its processes handling the provision of lines. BT has also announced the appointment of Tom Maguire as director of LLU.
This price cut explains why the last week has seen so many other announcements on LLU. Hopefully this means that 2005 will be a year that we see some innovation in the UK broadband market, with higher speed products both in the downstream and upstream directions.
