BT Retail offers cheap activation for SDSL services
Friday 20 August 2004 13:21:00 by Andrew Ferguson

In move that pre-empts the previously announced half-price offer by BT Wholesale, BT Retail is offering a £350 set-up fee on its Business Broadband Advanced service, i.e. SDSL. This is a saving of £245 compared to their normal price.

The offer will apply to all lines ordered before 20th October 2004, and activated before 20th November 2004. The SDSL services carry a high activation fee mainly due to the low volume sold, and the costs of installing the dedicated copper pair used for the service. BT Wholesale when installing the line do also try to optimise the route to ensure the maximum number of businesses can get the service. This custom routing also partly explains why SDSL checkers can return quite different results to the ADSL checkers.
