ntl: is the latest large broadband player to release its results, and these also show strong growth in the broadband sector for the last quarter. The number of broadband users has risen by 59,900 to a total of 1,088,900. The full financial results can be downloaded as a PDF from here.
Combining the BT, ntl: and Telewest figures together gives a growth of 563,900 users in the last quarter to a total of 4,326,900 connections at the end of June 2004. Of course this does leave out the various LLU connections and wireless providers operating in the UK, which is likely to be a ball park figure of 15,000 to 25,000 connections.
If this level of growth in connections can be sustained, it may allow providers a little more leeway to innovate with new products. Since when demand is low, convincing shareholders to throw more money at broadband rollout and product development can be hard.
