BT to reduce price of its retail ADSL packages
Friday 18 June 2004 18:22:00 by Andrew Ferguson

The Register has details suggesting that we may see price cuts from the BT Retail area in the next few weeks. This would only directly affect the BT Broadband (no frills) and BY Yahoo! packages. Though there may be knock on effects as other competitors attempt to continue undercutting BT.

In the face of the almost daily price cuts and new products announced by ISPs and resellers in the UK, the BT Retail pricing looks over priced. Just how BT will justify the cuts to Ofcom without generating a new round of margin squeeze investigations is hard to tell. A simple way would be to increase the bandwidth allowances on the £19.99 "Basic" service.
