The ISPA (Internet Service Provider Association) hosts an annual award ceremony held in London in association with ISPCON which has been running at Olympia this week.
These awards go to ISPs like Easynet (Best European ISP) and organisations that have helped the industry, such as the IWF. (Our commiserations to CUT who were nominated and were runners' up)
One of the light-hearted awards is the 'Internet Villain' award. Nominations included Jack Straw MP and David Edmonds (Oftel), but the winner was Sir Peter Bonfeld (CEO, BT plc.)
The irony behind the award winner is that originally the nomination was invalid as BT were sponsoring the award. BT then withdrew the sponsorship in good faith so that their CEO could be nominated. (At least he has a sense of humour!)
