Mac and Linux users not left in MP3 wilderness
Monday 19 January 2004 18:44:00 by Andrew Ferguson

One noticeable feature of many of the recent rush of wireless media devices is that the central server software only runs under a MS Windows OS. Slim Devices has a wireless MP3 player and SlimServer software that runs under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. The server side source code is also available under a Open Source GPL license. The player and server software is also compatible with iTunes.

The SliMP3 MP3 player itself retails for around £200 and it has a bigger brother with wireless connectivity for around £250. A list of UK suppliers can be found here.
