PlusNet has announced the details of a number of offers designed to attract people to upgrade to the faster 1Mbps and 2Mbps connections.
The offer is that regrades from 0.5Mbps to 1Mbps and 2Mbps products, be they 50:1 or 20:1 contention will cost just £29.38 (inc VAT). This is just the cost of the regrade to PlusNet, in other-words they are passing on the BT Wholesale special offer and removing their own 'administration' charges for the period of the offer which runs until 30th April 2004. This is particularly attractive for users on a 50:1 service, who want to move across to a 20:1 1Mbps or 2Mbps service which previously carried an admin fee of £41.13.
As with all special offers from service providers do confirm the exact details and conditions prior to ordering.
BT Retail are hoping to have around 10% of its existing BT Yahoo and 'no frills' Home 500 user-base on the 1Mbps products by June/July 2004. In cases where the price is right and the cost to upgrade, along with the smoothness of upgrading are handled correctly there is no reason why a 10% target could not be exceeded. If enough people do upgrade and show that the demand exists for faster products then the chances of further higher speed products from BT Wholesale e.g. Home 2000 will loom closer.
