Readers may remember that the people behind the campaign for getting broadband to Monkston in Milton Keynes met with BT Wholesale back in July 2003. They have published notes from a further meeting, which can be read here.
One of the key points is that the T-PON system that Monkston is plagued by, has been having its copper 'overlay' installed. This 250 pair cable should mean that people can have ADSL in the Monkston area, the first user is up and running but some final fiddling with checker and availability databases may be required. Also with the extended reach limits coming into play at midday on the 24th, the coverage of broadband in Milton Keynes will have improved to around 94%, estimates from BT suggest that around 6400 businesses and households lie in the unlucky 6%.
The Monkston web site is also providing regular updates on the progress of a wireless system for Milton Keynes, see here.
