Reports are emerging of a Major Service Outage (MSO) affecting a number of service providers. The problem appears to be affecting the BT Wholesale RAS (login) servers, which means that people will experience problems trying to connect to the ADSL service.
Therefore you are advised to NOT disconnect your ADSL if it is currently working, in case you cannot reconnect. The main sympton of the problem when reconnecting is receiving an IP address from the BT Wholesale IP pool rather than the one your ISP has assigned you.
Update: BT Wholesale has issued a briefing on the latest outbreak of worm viruses, specifically NACHI, BLASTER-D & WELCHIA. Apparently the volume of traffic these worms are generating is resulting in a general slowdown.
