The National Assembly for Wales has released news that ‘Y Duffryn Digitol – The Digital Vale’ project in Gwynedd has secured £0.5 million pounds of funding for a £1.3 million scheme to provide broadband Internet access to 1500 homes and businesses.
The aim of the Digital Vale project is to provide broadband to the following areas: Blaenau Ffestiniog, Maentwrog, Penrhyndeudraeth, Talsarnau, Harlech and Porthmadog. Apparently they are to use 802.11b wireless technology to provide affordable coverage. Precise details on the project in terms of what users can expect and when people will be able to apply for the service are unclear at this time.
The projects website indicates that the Objective One funding result was expected in November, so the scheme may be about 3 months behind schedule, which suggests a live date of June 2003.
